We are excited to announce that the MSCA MIRACLE DN held its Second in-person Network Meeting on September 29th and 30th, 2025, hosted by the University of Eastern Finland in Kuopio. This event brought together project partners, DCs, and invited experts for an inspiring scientific exchange and learning experience. Over the course of two days, the DCs presented updates on their individual research projects, highlighting new insights into the mechanisms of inflammation in cardiometabolic diseases, and discussed collaborative opportunities and future directions.
The meeting continued with 3 days of Training School C—“From Bench to Bedside”—which offered a unique opportunity for DCs to connect experimental research with translational application. The program included lectures and group work designed to enhance understanding of vascular disease models and translational research methods.
In addition to the scientific agenda, DCs participated in a workshop on entrepreneurship and innovation. These sessions offered valuable insights into Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), business case development, and funding for biotech start-ups. The week concluded with a visit to FinVector and Ferring Ventures, where participants explored real-world applications of biotech innovation.
The enthusiasm and active participation of all attendees made this event truly memorable and inspiring.
Special thanks to our fantastic partners at the University of Eastern Finland for hosting and organising the meeting, to all our guest speakers, Juha Hartikainen, Hanna P. Lesch, Matti Höytö, Juhani Lahdenperä from RNatives, Hanna Wang, Sanna Kettunen, Erika Gurzeler and Jarkko Kuivalainen for giving the educational lectures, sharing their expertise and their experience. Additionally, we would like to extend our gratitude to FinVector for welcoming our students and sharing the inspiring story of the company, as well as to all the consortium partners.
An unforgettable week of science, collaboration, and inspiration, topped off by a magical display of the Northern Lights!
On March 26th, 2025, the MIRACLE Doctoral Network held the online Science Network Meeting, bringing together our talented DCs, and supervisors across Europe.
This productive session was dedicated to showcasing the scientific progress of our outstanding DCs. Each candidate presented updates on their ongoing research projects, highlighting key achievements, challenges, and future plans. The meeting also fostered insightful and engaging discussions, reinforced collaboration across institutions and promoted knowledge exchange within the consortium.
We are proud of the impressive work our DCs are carrying out and look forward to the exciting results of their research!
We are delighted to announce that the two-day kick-off meeting of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions MIRACLE DN took place in Amsterdam at the beautiful and sustainable O|2 Labgebouw, VU (the Netherlands), on September 22nd and 23rd, 2024.
The meeting brought together project partners, doctoral candidates (DCs), and invited lecturers to set the stage for the next phase of research into inflammatory processes in cardiometabolic diseases. The program included an overview of the first eight months of the MIRACLE Programme, introductions to the participating institutions and DC projects, and insightful lectures from leading researchers. The Project Management Team discussed the MIRACLE training programme, managerial and financial aspects in the context of EU-MSCA networks and the recruitment strategy adopted within MIRACLE.
The week continued with three additional days of Training School A at Amsterdam UMC, from September 25th to 27th, for the 9 recruited DC students. The program focused on research skills, featuring engaging research talks on cardiovascular genomics, disease mapping, the role of macrophages in cardiovascular events, and computational modelling. It also included bioinformatics training, programming in R, immunology applications, and FAIR Data Management. The Training School A also covered transferable skills, including discussions on how to succeed in a PhD, along with practical modules designed to enhance self-awareness and help participants identify their preferred communication styles in different situations, fostering growth and understanding. The Business Model YOU introduced a strategic approach for personal and career development, guiding students to align their skills, values, and goals, sustainability in research, and gender diversity in research.
The participants’ enthusiasm and active plenary participation over the entire week made this event truly memorable and inspiring. We look forward to the continued success of the MIRACLE project and the exciting discoveries ahead.
